ULTRA XII DAY2

Back to the madness, the first of the DJs I went to see were none other than break-beat sensations Jen Lasher & Baby Anne. I think it’s almost impossible not to move your feet to these gorgeous girls. Next up was Planet of the Drums for some more bass in my face. Let me add that Carla & I ran into this stage by mistake on our way to Steve Aoki, but once we heard the sounds we couldn’t help but stay for a while. When we finally made it to Aoki we were surprised to see him shaking his head back and forth and screaming like he was in a heavy metal band. Whatever it was we LIKED it LOL! I also can’t forget to mention the AC-filled Heinikin Globe that people were wall climbing in. It was absolutely wonderful.
As the day grew darker, the freaks started to come out. Most of them were close to our booth as there was an insanely cool mushroom—yes, mushroom—monument-like object that you could literally crawl under and stand in. Inside were glow-in-the-dark drawings that mezmerized all who stood in. To the right of us was a hippie bus STOCKED with all the ammenities you desire: a stripper pole, live dj, and a top deck you could lay out on and see the bay and entire festival from. As it got later, the beats got harder and the DJs really began throwing it down. After Digweed ripped it, Carl Cox took over the tent. Let me tell you a little something about my man Mr. Cox: HE IS THE SICKEST! The tent had lasers zapping in every direction, a giant robot full of lights that came down from the roof and blew out fog on the crowd, dancers on stilts, and music SO loud and SO electrifying that I literally walked out of there feeling like an alien.
Swedish House Mafia was another crowd favorite who left nothing but the sweetest taste in my ears. The final showdown, however, was Deadmau5. Wow! He did not disappoint at all. As a matter of a fact, it got so intense at one point I had to walk away…walk away from the back of the crowd to the front, that is! The light show was out of hand and the music…ahhh, the music! By the end of the show I was saddened to think it was all over. I was even MORE saddened when I realized we had to go back to the booth and clean up. So what’s left to say? Ultra Music festival 12 was a MINDBLOWING day!

ULTRA XII DAY1

I was standing in front of the main stage as the DJ played hypnotist and elevated souls. My dancing body became one with the thousands beside me and we created a pulse that could be felt up and down Biscayne Blvd. The full moon was reflecting and the strobe lights were projecting, fluorescent fantasies upon our ocean of people. From the tallest point on the Ultra hill, the crowd moved like ripples produced by heavy bass. This is Ultra Music Festival. It’s always been bigger than you and it’s always been bigger than I, but this year it was bigger than ever. With over a hundred thousand in attendance on Saturday alone, the high concentration of people did not diffuse the farther away you walked from the stages. Instead, every crowd was so large that each met and created a never-ending cluster of neon bodies and faces. It was this weekend that Miami beat seekers had been anticipating all year. Electronic music has tightened its grip on our city in the last decade, and as we are in the midst of embarking on a new decade, UMF 12 reinforced the question of why this music has such a vigorous hold on us.
After a weekend of pure excitement, adrenaline and angst, you would think nothing could make UMF’s ending sweet. That is until those genius engineers announced that next year it is going to be three days long! The concept of bigger, better and stranger persists. Miami has everything to look forward to!

PARTY WIRED

Every month, we at beScene throw a release party for our current issue. This month, we celebrated the success of our 5th issue, the Wired issue! It took place at club Klutch on Friday, March 19th, and stirred up rowdiness within the beScene community. There was a massive turnout. From fans, to friends, and to family, everyone was dancing, drinking and vibing in support of our dreams. Before the drinks kicked in and all intuition was lost, there was a slideshow projected above everyone’s head with different shots of this month’s editorials. Not to mention, a picture of our fabulous team rocking it out so the crowd could match our faces. Dj Flex, soon to be featured in the magazine, played the funk until midnight and really got the humps bumping. Before anyone knew it, fists were pumping, girls were getting low, and the dance floor was on fire. As I remember looking around, not one person was without a glass in their hand and smile on their face. The encouragement beScene has received from our beautiful city of Miami has been a blessing, and we hope it only continues to grow! March has been madness, so thank you all who indulged in this wild party of an outcome! We will be filling your cups again next month so stay tuned as we drop our next issue on April 1st!

Peace & Love with just B in the scene,

Brittny
