MIFF Meets the Oscars!

The Miami Film Festival has launched it's 2010 edition. It began this past Friday, March 5th, and is running unitl Sunday, the 14th. Syncronized with it was last nights 82nd Annual Academy Awards. As we all know, an Academy Award is the highest award anyone in film making could win. It holds much prestige, therefore it is only given to the best. At this years Film Festival, they are honored to announce the U.S premieres of two Oscar nominated films: The Secret In Their Eyes and The Milk Of Sorrow. These two were nominated for Best Foreign Film and the winner was The Secret In Their Eyes. It is an Argentinian film that tells of an unsloved rape and murder of a Buenos Aires woman, only to discover that the ruthless crime is deeply intertwined with the retired prosecutor that is trying desperately to uncover the case.
When I met with the director of the festival, Tiziana Funzi, she explained how excited she was to see who would win because the winner promised to bring their Academy Award to the festival! This is taking Miami up a knotch, and it is just one fantastic detail of what this years MFF has to offer.
The Secret In Their Eyes is playing this Saturday, March 13th, at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts. The film begins at 7 PM sharp, but an Award Ceremony will be held promptly before it. Followed by it all will be an Awards Night Wrap Party to sum up this hectic week of movies with drinking, dancing & living it up. The location for this after party is still to be announced, so keep posted with me! :)
